Evo running VaelPak 2.2 with netarchy 4.1.9.1 BFS. Apparently there's an issue
with wireless tether running on his rom, b/c he released a mod of pre9 for it-
that's the only thing that works. I can't get the un-modded pre9, or pre10,
running on VaelPak 2.2, so I can't confirm whether this fix works, but I can
confirm that the modded pre9 is the best speed I've gotten so far (2 bars of
WiMax in midtown Manhattan), around 1.2 mbps (vs anywhere from 5.5 to 9+ mbps
directly on the Evo). I'm thinking of finding a rom that will run pre10 & will
post results when I do. thanks for the hard work!

I'm also running Vaelpak 2.2, my kernel is kings #9 bfs, but I never downloaded
his custom tether app. The original pre10 is what is working best for me. The
second pre10 without the repeat binary install on open wasn't working for me.
Or at least something wasn't, so I'm back on the original pre10 from yesterday.
Just did a speed test and laptop pulled down 4.3mbps.

I want to clearify something here. Our software is GPLv3-licensed-software. If
someone starts to make modifications - all changes must be published! Having
access to sourcecode of programs is great but don't violate the GPL.

I am on Baked Snack 1.8 with Kernel 6 using the newer updated pre-10 apk
provided here.
So far these all work for me.
1) modified pre-9 works well
2) first pre-10 works well
3) second pre-10 works well
The only big fluxuations I noticed for me at this point is the location of the
phone, which has nothing to do with the tethering app. I get different speeds
at different locations in my house and my room specifically.
There's a few things I can think of...
One is somehow the Wifi radio is interfering with the wimax radio, causing
fluxuations between one or the other. But this probably wouldn't make sense
considering Sprint has their official hotspot program to tether 4G via wifi.
Which brings me to my second theory which could have fixed this issue.
Second, People should to update ALL of their radios. The main Evo radio is at
version 2.15.00.09.01 ~ WiMAX 26023 ~ PRI 1.77_003
Disclaimer: Updating radios is risky and could brick your phone if something
goes wrong, so do with caution. Nobody here including myself is responsible if
something does go wrong.

Just wanted to mention that Pre10 does not work for me at all using Evo
Original comment by NathanAC...@gmail.com

I must have accidently reinstalled the original pre-10. I redownloaded the 2nd
pre-10 and to my findings tethering does not work. So the original Pre-10 and
previous work.
One more issue, if 4G connection is lost and it switches to 3G while
tethering, something to do with the radio switch during tethering operation
bugs up the application and internet connection is lost on tethered device.
Even a phone reset I get no tethered internet connection (phone connects to
laptop, but no internet on laptop)
Only way to fix is to clear data and reinstall app. So hopefully don't loose
connection while using 4G folks, or if you do, turn off tethering before you
loose connection! otherwise you'll probably have to reinstall

was only available for like 1 day or less.

I tried both with the same result. I also recently received a new EVO a few
days ago and tried both versions on it as well with the same result. I
downloaded the original pre10 right when it was posted, then the new one after
that.

disconnects frequently, while pdanet shows 7-8.

No luck for me with either pre10 or pre11. Now running EvoNonsense 2.0 with
King's #11 CFS. Pre9 still works Strangely, the best speed I get is using the
sprint wifi hotspot app (which works because I get my phone thru work, and
they're still paying the $30 even though I rooted...), but it's still not full
4g speed- around 1.5 down and 1.0 up.

I have the same issue. I actually paid for Sprints wireless hotspot and got
nearly the same results.. I now went with wifi tether pre11. As stated same
slow results unless I connect to my home pc, then it's good. I think it has to
do with the wireless on my iPad and the way the evo wireless signal is
broadcast. Let's say they don't play nicely. iPad will be updating software in
November let's see if that clears things up..

I've also been having the slow 4G issue. Just downloaded Pre11 but it doesn't
fix the problem. Wish there would be a fix for this soon. I will definitely
donate once 4G is working properly!
P. S. don't know if it makes a difference, but I'm running King's BFS #4 kernel
on stock Android 2.2

I get essentially 0 speed on only SOME pages. It's extremely odd. I can load
said pages on the phone itself, but not on anything tethered. It affects all
ports too, slowing things down like SSH.

Pre-11 is working for me. Found this thread as I was having the same problems
as everybody else running Pre-9.
Full root (not unrevoked)
Fresh 3.3.0.1
Net 4.1.9.1 Fresh Compatible
For what it's worth Pre-11 didn't work for me out of the box, it was having the
same problem (dl limit at 1 Mbps). I went into Titanium Backup and wiped data
for this app which fixed the problem.

Just an update, as i'd really like this to be fixed if possible, but pre-12 is
semi working for me now.
With earlier versions, I'd always be getting less than 1mbps down, but now I
get between 1.5-3mbps.
On the phone and usbtether, I consistently get 8mbps down.
Almost there?

I have an EVO, rooted with Unrevoked, with 1.77 PRL. Using Pre14, Wifi tether
at 4G seems to be locked at 600-700kbps, while Speedtest.net shows 4.5MBps
while testing on the phone.
Tried to delete fixroute.sh, and successfully deleted, does not help. Running
without any security (no WPA or WEP) and no MAC address filter does not help
neither.
any tips or help... thanks. :)

Same issue as comment 73. USB tethering via the "tether" app on the market
yeilds 10mbit down 1mbit up. 4g with this app seems to be locked at .4mbit
down .9 mbit up. Speedtest.net on phone shows 10mbit down.

Are there any updates to this? Recent updates to wifi tether over the past
couple months have increase 4G tethering speed from really really slow, to just
slow. I tried deleting fixroute.sh too, but it didn't fix the slow 4G tether
problem. I still get ping times 3 times slower on a tethered laptop compared
to the phone, and tethering speeds are limited to around 1mbps, compared to
around 4-5mbps on the phone.
Due to the increase ping times, it actually works better for me just to keep 4G
turned off. While the 4G is roughly the same speed in terms of bandwidth, if
not a little bit faster, the ping times are a lot slower when doing 4G
tethering compared to 3G.

Hey everyone, I have been looking high and low on the internet for a wifi
tether and 4G fix. Like everyone on this forum when I perform a speedtest I
get between 4 and 10mb on my phone and between 0.5 and 1mb while on wifi
tether. I tried deleting the fixroute.sh file using adb shell and was
unsuccessful at obtaining better speeds.
I recently purchased and downloaded root explorer for an unrelated reason.
While exploring the phone's internal folders I saw the fixroute.sh file and
decided to delete it. I followed up by clearing wifi tether's data and
reopening the app. I couldn't believe it but I am now getting over 5mb while
on wifi tether.
Hope this also works for you guys.

I'm still having this issue, and I've tried basically every fix on here
(deleting fixroute.sh, changing channels-though I haven't tried all of them,
trying different versions (2.05 pre 7 - 2.08 pre 1). Think someone could maybe
troubleshoot me from step 0? (maybe starting with restore factory firmware or
doing a hard wipe, etc?).
I'm currently using the Synergy Rom (which is also the best Rom I've ever used)
which is based on sprint's latest Android 2.3.3 rollout to fix netflix.

Also, I ran across this little gem that apparently hasn't been worked on in a
while:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/
I installed it, ran the program and started tether (without a hitch, mind you,
pretty f'n sweet program and nice for saving battery on phone when only needing
access to 1 comp), and sure enough, I'm getting 4g speeds (appx 5.5mbs down and
1.2 up).
Not sure if this is helpful, but at very least it's a workaround to tether at
4g, albeit with a USB cable.

Consider releasing a test apk to collect activity on other channels.
Heavily used spectrum == less throughput for y' all
Instead of "speed" test sites download an iso of redhat to allow for TCP magic
to adjust in first four minutes

If we can use the same method Wired tether is using then should be golden or if
we can use the same method as other apps on the phone. Although I believe the
problem has to do with the evo wifi adapter. I noticed I get full speeds only
when im close Which is a problem for me because the best signal is 3 floors
above me. I get like 15mpbs which makes my dl/ul significantly lower even
though that should be enough. So i believe its related to the throughput.
