What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. create a XLS file using this class (the example from Wiki).
2. upload to Google Docs

It says:
"We were unable to upload this document because of this error:

Sorry, there was an error saving the file. Please try again.

This error message comes from the converter we're using, and hopefully
tells you what you need to know to fix the problem."

Open Office opens the file no problem, though.

Thank you for your feedback.

I can confirm the error your getting, but the error message which google docs
gives is less
than helpful to resolving the issue.

If you can get more information regarding the error rather than such a generic
message, im
happy to look into it further. Until then ill close this bug.

Google also suggests the following after that less than helpful error;

"This error message comes from the converter we're using, and hopefully tells
you what you
need to know to fix the problem.

If not, and you have the desktop word processor installed on this system, there
are two other
easy ways to upload the document to Google Docs:

Using the Clipboard

   1. Open the document in the desktop word processor.
   2. Type Ctrl-A to select the contents of the entire document.
   3. Type Ctrl-C to copy it to the clipboard.
   4. In Google Docs, create a new document.
   5. When the Edit window appears, type Ctrl-V to paste it in.

Save as HTML

   1. Open the document in the desktop word processor.
   2. Choose File > Save As...
   3. In the dialog that appears, select Web Page (*.htm; *.html) for the "Save as type."
   4. Save the file, and make a note of the file name and folder, as you'll need it next.
   5. In Google Docs, choose Upload again from the main page.
   6. This time, specify the html file you just made in the desktop word processor.

Using either of these approaches, you should now have the document open in
Google Docs."
