TTS Service Extended force closes #53

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Launching the TTS Extended app
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected: I think the voice data should be downloaded.
Instead: SORRY! The application TTS Service Extended (process com.google.tts)
has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

At initial launch, app display indicates that the voice data is being
downloaded. After a few moments, I am asked if I would like to force close or
wait. When I choose to wait, a blank screen appears, and after a few moments,
the force close message appears. Subsequent launches immediately produce the
force close message.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Version 3.1 on Android 1.6 (HTC Dream)

Please provide any additional information below.
Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility -- checkbox is greyed-out
Settings > Speech synthesis > Install voice data -- this is the only
non-greyed-out field. Clicking on this does nothing.
No connectivity problem. SD card is correctly inserted. i.e. SD card transfers
are working fine.

I checked against the espeak-data ZIP file provided in the wiki, and can
confirm that the voice data was downloaded correctly. I uninstalled the app,
and kept the espeak-data directory in the SD card. After re-installation, TTS
Extended does not indicate that voice data is being downloaded, but still force
closes at launch.

When I use the app Speaking Pad (which I think uses the voice data), there is
no data download prompt, nor force closes, but pressing the 'Speak' button
doesn't work.

I have the exact same problem. Attempting to download and install. Application
said it needed to download data. Force closed after a few minutes. Now when I
click the icon, it opens. But as soon as I click on any of the options, it
freezes, waits a few seconds then informs me it is not responding and force
closes. I have Droid X running Froyo.
