German Umlauts break up words in espeak

Hi,

What steps will reproduce the problem?
* Use Espeak for speech
* Switch phone and espeak to German.
* Go to settings ("Einstellungen")
* Go to tones ("Töne")

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The word "Töne" should be spoken as Tö-ne. Istead, T-ö-ne is spoken.
This happens for all German umlauts. ß in Grü-ße is spoken as 
Gr-ü-ess-zett-e.

This makes understanding of speech very difficult.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Talkback and Espeak obtained from market on 2011-03-02 on Motorola Droid 2. The 
Motorola screen reader is diabled.
