Very strange curl errors #194

Hi Randy. I use this package every week and LOVE it, so I'm trying to share it with a couple of other people at my company. But whenever they try to use it, they always get 

Error in curl::curl_fethc_memory(url, handle = handle) : Couldn't resolve host name

I'm running this on 3 different machines without problem, yet we've tried on 3 other machines at work and all get the same error message, even when running on the same network. I tried to install same versions as on my machine, checked DNS and proxy settings (the same), no change. Finally I started experimenting with the checkpoint package so I could install versions of all packages from the same date. When I ran a checkpoint for yesterday on my machine, where RSiteCatalyst has been working fine, I got the same error. So it's package versions, not the machines themselves.

Any suggestions as to what versions of RSiteCatalyst and various dependencies we should use to try to get this working? Thanks!!

This throws the error on my machine where normally everything works fine:

Without the checkpoint(), whatever it is that's older and installed on my machine works fine.

Hey @smach, glad you are spreading the gospel of RSiteCatalyst!

These types of errors are by far the hardest for me to troubleshoot, because they are so specific. This is part of the reason why I added AppVeyor testing to RSiteCatalyst v1.4.10. That package passes on Windows, so unfortunately, the only thing I can provide is the build log, which lists the exact package versions the tests pass with:

Thanks, I'll give another try. It is very strange, I'm running it successfully on OS X and Windows, but we got the error on an older Windows machine so even got a loaner Mac from IT and still have the problem. I'll try to see if I can install those versions.

@smach, #197 shows the same/similar error, and the "fix" for them was downgrading R to 3.2.2. Don't know why that might work, but perhaps try that?

I'll leave this open for a few more days just in case you find a solution, but unfortunately, I'm not sure how to help here.

FYI we were never able to figure out the problem with 3 different machines here at work, although I've got two machines here in the same office where it works fine. However, it works just fine using the rocker project in a Docker container (as long as I launch the container so it has root access). I'm just posting this in case anyone else is having a similar problem in trying to get this very useful package up and running. Docker may be the way to go.
