Regression of Icefilms in XBMC EDEN: script error due to metadata handling #72

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Install Openelec on a pen drive according to the standard instructions you
find in the documentation.
2. Install Icefilms 1.0.21 plugin by downloading the zip file of anarchintosh
repository and following the usual steps
3. Attempt to list in ICEFILMS plugin the "A" directory in the A-Z directory of
movies

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

it should give you the list of movies instead you get a plugin error (see
screen-shots)

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

EDEN Beta 1 on the last Openelec build

Please provide any additional information below.

This used to be a bug for ICEFILMS plug in a while back.

Basically ICEFILMS would give you a script error when you had the metadata
enabled and you would list a movie directory from ICEFILMS or from a saved
favorite. I believe it was caused by an error due to the mishandling of certain
characters encoded in the strings. This was fixed few months ago and now using
the last version of the Plugin (1.0.21) in EDEN is surfacing again.

To reproduce the bug as I did, you need to install openelec and ICEFILMS
(http://www.openelec.tv) on a USB key and then bootstrap linux and load the
program from it on your HTPC or computer.

Openelec is a minimalistic linux distribution build around XBMC. What I did is
to make an USB openelec pen-drive with the stable release of Openelec which
contains XBMC Dharma
(http://http://releases.openelec.tv/OpenELEC-ION.x86_64-1.0.2.tar.bz2) compiled
for an ION_64 build. Than I installed the anarchintosh repository, followed by
the last Icefilms plugin and then I tested it for few days without a single
problem.

It worked beautifully (***thank you*** developers).

Then I repeated exactly the same steps, in the same hardware, with the
development build which works around the Beta-1 release of Eden instead of
Dharma. I tested few of these daily builds and I can say that the regression
happen with all of them up to this build:
http://sources.openelec.tv/tmp/image/openelec-eden/OpenELEC-ION.x86_64-devel-201
20102142054-r9416.tar.bz2

I enclose the logs of the last build with XBMC turned to "debug mode" to this
bug report. I also enclose few screen shots showing the actions that triggered
the bug. Notice how saving the TV show "house" in the favorites and than
attempting to open it elicits the bug, while the show "Castle" or "Bones" does
not.

Notice also that Openelec install python 2.6 and not the standard 2.4, but
given that the Dharma build works fine I believe this should not be the cause
of the bug.
