HDMI audio causing screen reset on RasPi 4B with Elecrow DIS78950R / RC070S display #5124
HDMI audio fails to work on Raspberry Pi 4B in a non X environment when using a 7" Elecrow DIS78950R / RC070S display. The symptom is that a click is heard on the built in speakers and then the display is reset.
I am able to work around the problem but explicitly setting a DMT mode in /boot/config,txt after which audio works correctly. Setting a CEA mode does not work. My assumption is that the Pi is booting with a CEA mode by default. Adding the following to /boot/config.txt makes the problem go away.
#hdmi_group=2
#hdmi_mode=85
Steps to reproduce the behaviour
Boot the Pi while connected to a Elecrow DIS78950R / RC070S display. From the command line, enter
speaker-test -c2 -t wav -D hdmi:vc4hdmi0

Describe the bug
HDMI audio fails to work on Raspberry Pi 4B in a non X environment when using a 7" Elecrow DIS78950R / RC070S display. The symptom is that a click is heard on the built in speakers and then the display is reset.
I am able to work around the problem but explicitly setting a DMT mode in /boot/config,txt after which audio works correctly. Setting a CEA mode does not work. My assumption is that the Pi is booting with a CEA mode by default. Adding the following to /boot/config.txt makes the problem go away.
Steps to reproduce the behaviour
Boot the Pi while connected to a Elecrow DIS78950R / RC070S display. From the command line, enter
Device (s)
Raspberry Pi 4 Mod. B
System
Generated on the same system with the workaround applied.
