Problems with Cyberbig #38

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Cyberbig shows graphic garbage all across the screen when a game is started, in
the intro screen, when the character turns and when there's any enemy on screen.

Also, the game over music sounds specially bad, but that's related to the other
opened issue.

The game over music can also be heard in the pause screen, in case you need to
know for testing.

That's a very interesting game for testing emulation.
The garbage is due to the non perfect emulation of FBZX Wii.
It depends on I/O contetion emulation.
If you use normal emulation the results are even worse.
Instead if you use +3 zx model, where the I/O contention is not emulated, the
game works properly

There's also a lot of screen corruption going on when a tape is played during
the game, which interestingly also happens in another game by Animagic:
"Mortadelo y Filemón 2 - Safari Callejero".

This depends on the fact that in turbo mode the precision is disabled to speed
up the loading.

I was wrong about Cyberbig.tzx

The corruption in Cyberbig is due the snow effect which is well emulated in
FBZX Wii:

Few emulators emulate this effect which is due to a bug in the ULA.

It would interesting to check if the effect is visible also on real hardware
(in +3 zx model the bus was removed).

I received the confirmation that Cyberbig is affected by snow emulation.
