Substantial changes to graph construction, which improve both speed and code readability. These changes pave the way for upcoming changes to the gain specification interface. Much of the pre and post solve statistical code was been disabled/broken by these changes. The stats module needs a fairly comprehensive rewrite, so this is acceptable for now.
