"Hide search" options not working

Which Minimalist Gmail option is causing the problem?

What is the problem? Describe completely:
The options to hide the elements of the search bar are not working.

Does the issue persist when loading Gmail with this link:
Yes.

Chrome version         - 9.0.597.84
Chrome update channel  - Beta
Operating System       - Mac OS 10.6.6
Language               - English
Google apps user?      - No
Other Gmail extensions - None
