Move Search to Left Navigation #81

I want to keep the search, but it eats up a ton of space, even as only the 
search input and the search button.  Could there be a setting to move this to 
the left navigation, much like the last access information can be moved to the 
top?

Moving elements like that around is difficult and often causes things to break 
because of the insane way that Gmail is setup. I recommend hiding the header 
completely. If you want to search just hit the [ / ] key which is the shortcut 
for search in Gmail. The header will automatically unhide and be focused.
