Yeah, when this happens lets also move to using the less accessible, cleaner designed "improved carousels": http://parkhurstdesign.com/improved-carousels-twitter-bootstrap/.
As long as there are captions then accessibility shouldn't be an issue. Besides we're not that accessible to begin with.
Convert the website to using Bootstrap 3 or 4 (4 is on the way).

This will lead to improved responsiveness, gives the site access to "cards", faster JS, etc., but requires a different syntax on css classes.
