Build that works on MacOS Big Sur? #314

Is there a EOF build (even if it's a beta or just a build of the current state of affairs) that will work on MacOS Big Sur?

raynebc commented 3 years ago

Probably not, Apple has deprecated far too many things for me to be able to resolve by myself. If an Apple developer ever helps with EOF programming it could be a thing, but it's unlikely.

The Allegro Legacy build of EOF runs on Big Sur. It hasn’t been released, but I can provide a build for testing purposes. It actually needs more testing before I can make it an official release. If you are interested, let me know.

I would be interested.

Okay, I've got the build running again with the latest Allegro Legacy. You can download it here. I have done some minimal testing with this version and it seems to work, but not without issue. The main thing I noticed was some keyboard shortcuts not working.

If you come across other issues while using this version, you can post your findings here and I'll see if it's something I can fix.

I recommend setting the display to 8-bit mode (File->Display->Display->Force 8-Bit Color) since Allegro Legacy's 8-bit rendering is the most optimized.

Seems to work alright, does immediately spin my fans up, but not to any problematic extent.

thank you for the version posted above. I'm currently trying it out :)
