should work without effortMatrix now #94

Andy asked me to make it so effortMatrix was not required, so that this would work with older code.

This creates the effortMatrix as just a matrix of 1s if effortMatrix is not supplied, that should take care of it, since that is basically what was being assumed before.

Don't merge this. I was working through the examples with the documentation and found another issue.
