I work at a major hospital and we are working on a project with a glucometer vendor to get glucometer data into our EMR. The vendor does not want to use HL7 because of its inherent overhead, instead they want to use JSON or some other cloud technology to push data sheets into our EMR. I think FHIR would be an ideal solution for us to work with them as an integration solution that is standards compliant and yet agile for their developers.

Hi, as the HL7 FHIR standard is a very promising standard for research and software development projects we would be very interested in having a support within the Mirth tool as it is already available for HL7 V2 messages or DICOM formats, etc. At our university and university clinic we start to have projects related to teaching (in Medical Informatics courses), research projects as well as in serious envisioned product developments in associated companies. It would be nice to get an idea whether it will take month or years until there is a FHIR support within Mirth.

This is something we are actively working on right now and the timeline will certainly not be years.
Given that FHIR is still a draft standard and many things are still in flux, it would be very helpful if those of you that are interested in it provided some feedback for us in this forum post http://www.mirth.com/community/forums/showthread.php?t=12233

Given some major changes between the FHIR DSTU1 and the as of yet unreleased DSTU2, as well as the fact that not many people will ever even use DSTU1, we may want to shift our focus and target DSTU2. Many of the changes appear to simplify various aspects of the spec, such as the shift away from atom feeds for bundles.

We actually released a technology preview for FHIR in Mirth Connect, about a month ago. The listener connector included with the preview is compatible with 3.2.2. Check it out here: [https://info.mirth.com/Fast-Healthcare-Interoperability-Resources-FHIR.html]
So this is "done", but additional previews will likely come when newer DSTUs are officially released. If any FHIR-related things are to be done in the MC open source project, we'll open up a new issue for it.
