API for weather data #58

Open nita24 opened 6 years ago

Integration of other weather station should be high on the priority list.

Wunderground

function dh_weather_add_wunder_station($staid, $apikey, $share = TRUE, $parent = NULL)

function dh_weather_get_wunder_data($hydroid, $startdate)
// gets data for period (can new api do this?) and updates
// options for retrieval:
//  - hourly10day http://api.wunderground.com/api/Your_Key/hourly10day/q/CA/San_Francisco.json

I was thinking the same thing. Wunderground has the advantage that a number of vineyards with existing weather stations already push data there. Will we also need to support the Rainwise API?

It looks like the Weather Underground now charges for a new API permission (existing one should work fine). I sent them an email to ask what type of fees are involved, but we may need to come up with another solution.

The other place we can obtain API is Open weather map https://openweathermap.org/ It is free, but since it is located in England, the system is a bit slow. It may or may not affect the performance, and also they will charge if we access too much data.

Thus, it may be easier to just pay W Underground. We will see once they respond to my email.

Rain wise is not in a good shape at this point. The NEWA may ditch them, if Rainwise cannot get their act together soon. The NEWA can provide an API, but I think it is easier if we start working on Weather underground or other source so that people can use whatever they have. (And we do not need to be responsible for it!)
