Promoting a less complex RChain #659

Closed azazime closed 6 years ago

azazime commented 6 years ago

The RChain community is evolving very quickly hence the need for a more efficient and less complex way of selling the community/brand to others who are not aware.

Feel free to drop your suggestions or what you noticed is not good for our community.

Task: Write an article on RChain simplifying its process with basic explanation. (Document must be in Google docs format)

Suggested budget: $[500-1000]

Time frame: [two weeks]

Measure of completion: [completed]

Simplified Document on Rchain can be viewed here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iJR3DA_rSODiVTGz27VVX93Ox4Gx35oz54PNvDzCNWU/edit?usp=sharing

azazime commented 6 years ago

I noticed the admins on some of our telegram groups need to setup, create a strategy on how to better explain to new members about the Rchain community instead of always referring them to articles online

jasoncruzzy commented 6 years ago

@azazime I think there should be a welcome video that will be brief and primarily based on introducing Rchain, its drive, its tasks and dreams. That way new members or impending members can understand faster how the Rchain works.

casanwugo commented 6 years ago

@azazime, nice one.

azazime commented 6 years ago

@jasoncruzzy I just hope the admins get to see this

azazime commented 6 years ago

Thanks @casanwugo and please drop any suggestions you feel could help

David405 commented 6 years ago

@azazime I dont really think RChain is complex, it only is broad and will require newbies to give it hours of study to acquaint themselves with it. As for RChain documentation, I believe a lot of things have changed, RChain documentation is now more organized than it used to be and a little less stressful to search for information.

On the telegram channels, you should see a detailed pinned post that gives you links to RChain important documentation.

If you still insist it is still complex, then you can take it up and "simplify" its documentation.

Hello @azazime, the issue you raised is not one to be overlooked, before I got here, I knew what it took me to and if I was not someone who persevere, maybe, just maybe it I wouldn't have been here. Making it less complex to get into the system is what we should work on. In as much as we want intelligent people on the team, we shouldn't make it a hell for them to come on board. A virtual video should be introduced and our social media group should be utilized. We should make a minute video in batch in the three major language( Engish, French and Portuguese ) explaining the step by step process on how to get into the system. This will really help people get into the system without it been 'complex' for some certain people. This will enable us widen our horizon in African and get people in the system more whereby achieving our goals and aim.

Pionelle commented 6 years ago

A commendable effort there!

azazime commented 6 years ago

@David405 maybe its not complex to you because you are a bit comfortable with this area....Am speaking of the bigger picture because if we're to increase in number we must simplify things...

jasoncruzzy commented 6 years ago

@azazime we are already working on making 'mashedup' videos which will be alot helpful to newbies. Check issue#649. I think with that we are on course to 'promoting a less complex RChain'

azazime commented 6 years ago

@jasoncruzzy a mashedup video is very much welcomed and should be well promoted

pmoorman commented 6 years ago

@azazime typically Github Issues get used for executing specific tasks, with a budget associated with it. This place seems more like a place for discussion.

I would suggest either of the following 3 options:

  1. Consider moving this discussion to Discord. Discord is typically where discussions happen

  2. Consider rephrasing the title & description into a SMART objective, with a clear deliverable (but it doesn't seem like that's what you wanted to do)

  3. Append the title with DISCUSSION: or something of that sort. Then at least it's clear this issue is a discussion rather than a deliverable.

...

Besides that, I think you're right that more straightforward promotion is a good idea. So let's get our hands dirty to make that happen!

Pionelle commented 6 years ago

This would really be helpful especially for newbies.

@pmoorman you either do not understand the extent of this problem or you feeling unconcerned. Anyway its an issue and not just a mere discussion, one you show bring up solutions.

philipandri002 commented 6 years ago

I have been here for over two weeks now and truly finding my way wasn't truly easy.

From the terminology to the modus operandi it was a realm difficult task getting involve.

I really appreciate azazime for this inspiring project

pmoorman commented 6 years ago

@azazime

@pmoorman you either do not understand the extent of this problem or you feeling unconcerned. Anyway its an issue and not just a mere discussion, one you show bring up solutions.

The reason I'm writing is exactly because it is such a big issue. In my mind, this is an issue that'll cost in the order of $100k-500k to fix, and has many moving parts involved with it.

For that reason I'm asking: what exactly do we expect from this lone Github issue? What work are we gonna do? When do we consider it "done"?

I appreciate you highlighting the need for making things less complex, and I would really appreciate your help in fixing it!

...

For now, my job is simply to make sure that marketing issues have a title & description that is descriptive of the work being done, and being SMART (Specific, Measurable, etc.). This description needs some work in that regard.

I'm super happy if we can turn this into a discussion.... that leads to a bunch of suggestions... that we can then spin out into separate issues... and execute & implement!

When I view the 'one-pager' about RChain, at the bottom I see "This post is for informational purposes only, and is not an investment advise.". Was this posted somewhere?

azazime commented 6 years ago

@kitblake yes it was posted on rchain.africa and social media

pmoorman commented 6 years ago

@azazime in order to vote a budget for this, could you outline where this document has appeared, or where it'll be used, so we can gauge it's impact?

Based on that, we can come up with a budget that makes sense.

Approximately how many relevant views has the document garnered? I see it's posted on rchain.africa, but I don't know if that means that anyone outside the coop has actually seen it. See my concerns in https://github.com/rchain/bounties/issues/662#issuecomment-394689536, too

cc @kitblake @AyAyRon-P @Pionelle @David405

azazime commented 6 years ago

It has appeared in the rchain.africa website which we project would gather more members moving forward (New members would need this information), it was posted on Africa telegram group, it will be posted on Nairaland which is one of the most visited sites in Africa and also across various social media platforms.

azazime commented 6 years ago

@pmoorman I would appreciate a higher reward budget for this issue because it would be continuously publicized regardless of the enormous effort already put into Ltd publicity

pmoorman commented 6 years ago

Hey @azazime in the README we've said:

We consider it fair if the value you provide towards our goal is proportional to the value you receive.

The value in this case is in the people that you reach. If you plan to further promote this piece in June and reach more people, then you should be entitled to extra rewards in June.

For now, I'm voting for the value that has been delivered, in my personal judgement. Feel free to consult other people that are certified under the trust metric, or further explain what value has already been delivered

kitblake commented 6 years ago

Hi @azazime, you put together a nice one-pager. it's too bad it's only been posted in the rchain.africa forum. That's not a public forum and afaik there are only a few already onboard bounty system participants there. Where on social media was it posted? I searched the @rchain_africa Telegram group and didn't find it. Can you send a link? Messages on Telegram are URL addressable, e.g. https://t.me/rchain_africa/323

azazime commented 6 years ago

@kitblake I'm having a hard time getting the link from telegram but it has been posted on rchain Africa and rchain official telegram groups respectively... It's currently among the current messages there as I've reposted it this morning

kitblake commented 6 years ago

@azazime Now when I search in @rchain_africa I find your link to a Google doc. We've put in a small reward. This is the Telegram link to your post: https://t.me/Rchain_Africa/384.

For the future, to get a Telegram link, tap next to the message and choose "Copy link" from the menu. On desktop right-mouse does the same thing.

azazime commented 6 years ago

I don't understand what you mean by we've put in a small reward?? @kitblake because the reward is still at 85$, please I believe this issue need more reward than is been given.... The comments of members here can attest to it, thank you

@azazime reached out asking for Guides to review the issue once more for June. I'm not inclined to award additional budget on top of what has already been funded in May, reasons being:

  1. I don't see any reason to assume this has reached any significant level of exposure (@azazime feel free to prove otherwise)

  2. The medium article lacks even the most basic formatting that I would expect from an article on Medium (e.g. headlines, breaks between paragraphs, etc.)

  3. In Reddit, there has been no engagement.

  4. On Instagram, I can't really tell if there's been any audience, but I don't think pieces of text like this belong on Instagram like that anyway. It looks horrible!

I don't think this is the way to go for promoting articles. In the future, I suggest articles (much like translations) should only be funded in proportion to the audience that they reach.

I'll refrain from voting for it, and I furthermore suggest @azazime close this issue.
