Douglas Adams was an English writer, humourist, and dramatist. He is best known as the author of the radio comedy and book series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Adams was an enviromental activist who campaigned on behalf of endangered species; his Last Chance to See radio series and book with naturalist Mark Carwardine gives him an Erdős number of ten. His Sabbath number stems from his friendship with Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour: on Adams' 42nd birthday, he was invited to play at one of Pink Floyd's concerts.

[^book]: Last Chance to See is a non-fiction book documenting Adams’ and Carwardine’s travels to find species on the brink of extinction.
