Winget installs are broken #262

Closed aloner-pro closed 10 months ago

aloner-pro commented 1 year ago

I searched tokyo from windows search with Win+S but it went to edge whereas my default is Brave. I also tried the method given by Win+R , it too lead to Edge.

Using Windows 10.

aloner-pro commented 1 year ago

This doesn't happen with NoMoreEdge, it redirects search results directly to brave.

rcmaehl commented 1 year ago

Can you verify you did not have both installed at the same time?

aloner-pro commented 1 year ago

At first I only had MsEdgeRedirect only on my system. Downloaded it through winglet. After it didn't work I installed NoMoreEdge by the installer.

Do you mean winget? If so, can you run winget as administrator and retry the install. I have the installer set to inherit Winget's permissions and as such it would only install in service mode from package managers.

Well I uninstalled both MSEdgeRedirect and NoMoreEdge then reinstalled MSEdgeRedirect from winget with admin priviledges and now it is working.

I'll get non-admin winget installs fixed for 0.8.0.0

admin installs are broken too, fyi

rcmaehl commented 1 year ago

@androidacy-user @aloner-pro Are you all on Win11 or Win10. Wasn't able to reproduce.

Alright, my Win11 laptop is charging, but I'll test on there shortly

androidacy-user commented 1 year ago

Any progress? Build from may 28 still has the issue for me, edge_removal from @AveYo works fine but doesn't offer the fine grained controls

aloner-pro commented 1 year ago

As told by me the admin install worked for me on my windows 10 laptop. I am using it currently.

Could be an 11 only update

rcmaehl commented 1 year ago

Pretty sure this is an issue with $aConfig[$vMode]. I have no idea what previous me was doing with this 😂

This is why 1.0.0.0 is getting a full code rewrite

Nods along knowingly like we know what that even means, and knowing that 1.0 will come soon(tm)

Can you all check %localappdata%\MSEdgeRedirect\PEBIAT.log for any log entries?

aloner-pro commented 1 year ago

Can you all check %localappdata%\MSEdgeRedirect\PEBIAT.log for any log entries?

It's empty. and the correct filepath would be %localappdata%\MSEdgeRedirect\logs\PEBIAT.log

I will also check. @rcmaehl I'm also on Windows 11, version 22H2 - build 22621.1848 (latest stable build)

EDIT: I just installed it trough the release page here on GitHub. Maybe I need to make a seperate issue?

Also, I don't have those log files. See below: Screenshot 2023-06-14 232333

Hi all,

Has anyone tested this with 0.7.4.0?

Hi all,

Has anyone tested this with 0.7.4.0?

Honestly, I've been using aeyo's edge remover for a while now. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
