empty space at end of post? #40

On several posts I see lots of empty space with horizontal lines, as below image @kbodwin any idea how to fix?

I noticed that earlier too, and below those lines there are also numbered boxes which I think are usually meant to be for the home page only, serving as the index to different blog post listings right? (assuming there is a fixed limit per page, which too in this case I'm not sure exists)

Also, stemming from those buggy indices another thing that might be out of design is that you can see the links to the other blog posts below a post. For example, this link which comes out of checking the fourth listing for my interview post seems to have that effect:
