fix for #78 #79

Fixes issue #78, caused by update to {glue}. Also fixes an error that had developed in the nucleotide simulation example vignette.

mac-os latest release gh actions failure appears to be unrelated to slimr (units package is not being installed because of missing system dependency). This hopefully will eventually be fixed somewhere else, so I am just going to merge the PR for now. Slightly annoying this will give me a failed build badge, but it will have to be for now.
