merge development branch back over to master #54

I've been doing everything on the development branch for quite a while and think it makes sense to bring all that code over to master.

If I remember correctly, the RDKit build was running fine also under Windows using the conda PosgreSQL version. I'll do my best to test it over the next few days, unfortunately currently I'm K.O. on the couch fighting the pain of facial shingles (yes, ouch, A LOT).
