Still working on testing, but wanted to make a note in yet another place that 
when this is being testing by sending strings through the Serial Monitor, you 
have to set the end of line character to newline (from nothing) down in the 
bottom right corner where you set the baud rate. 

At the moment it seems to be working for compass and various wind sensor data, 
but I'm still double checking everything.
