Looks OK on Firefox on Mac OS X Mavericks and Windows 7, so there will be platform + browser issues. I suspect it may have something to do with different interpretations of system fonts. I find it easier to render the text more accurately in SVG than in HTML, however it's easier to make HTML editable. The motivation for rendering the text in a HTML layout that's close to the scan is to (eventually) have a WYSWIG editor for correcting the OCR on the fly.
