Define missing articles in Memoirs of Museum Victoria, ISSN 0814-1827 #64

@rdmpage Please add these articles to BioStor. Museum Victoria and BHL Australia provided article metadata to fill gaps in BHL and BioStor. There are 57 articles in this bunch. They contain a value in the DP or Database Provider field but there are no BHL pageids in the Notes field. I'd really appreciate your help with these because I've kept this contributor waiting too long. Thanks!!!

I forgot to mention that the RIS file provided contains DOIs.

@suwiding I'll take a look at this. I've grabbed the metadata from CrossRef and discovered there are lots of DOIs to add to the existing articles, so I'll use CrossRef as the source. The ISSN for this journal seems to be a bit of a muddle.

According to WorldCat we have:

Journal Dates ISSN-L ISSN (print) ISSN (electronic)
Memoirs of Museum Victoria 57, no. 2 (31 July 1999)- 1447-2546 1447-2546 1447-2554
Memoirs of the Museum of Victoria Memoir 45, no. 1 & 2 ([July/Dec. 1983-Jan./June 1984])-memoir 57, no. 1 (1 May 1998) 0814-1827 0814-1827

However, CrossRef uses the electronic ISSN back to volume 58 issue 1 (2000). The scans in BHL for volume 57(2) have ISSN 0814-1827 printed on them http://biodiversitylibrary.org/page/39793591.

@rdmpage I just realized that the DOIs included in the RIS file resolve to non-existent webpages. I've written to the contributor with questions about the ISSN and DOIs. Thank very much for your help.

rdmpage commented 7 years ago

@suwiding Hmm, the ones I've tried seem fine...

rdmpage commented 7 years ago

I've added the articles in CrossRef to BioStor, and added DOIs to the ones in BioStor that lacked them.

suwiding commented 7 years ago

@rdmpage Thanks very much for adding these articles! I compared the contents of the original RIS file to the contents of BHL. 7 of the 57 articles didn't make it into BHL. I tried to determine what the problem was by checking the page level metadata, CrossRef... but wasn't able to see a pattern. I'm attaching a small RIS file containing the missing articles. I'd be happy to modify the new RIS file if it would help, e.g. by putting the BHL pageids into the notes field.

@rdmpage The RIS files for this publication had 'Museums Victoria' in the DP field. This information isn't being passed from BioStor to BHL in the contributor field, e.g. in response to http://direct.biostor.org/itemarticles.php?item=192807. I assume that the value isn't saved in BioStor. Will we be able to pass an additional contributor using the DP field in the future? Was there a problem with the RIS file provided this week? We really appreciate all of your help!

@suwiding Once I realised that there were lots of DOIs for these and other Memoirs of Museum Victoria articles I went to CrossRef to get the metadata, and didn’t use the file you sent. Hence the DP field wasn’t set. That only gets set if I actually use the RIS file, which I do in most cases.

@rdmpage That's what I thought. Thanks for explaining. Please let me know if you want to try the stragglers (see a couple of comments back) a second time or if I should do manual article definition in BHL for those articles. Thanks again.

rdmpage commented 7 years ago

@suwiding OK the missing articles are now in BioStor.

Still lots of articles to add...
