Any chance you would license this under something besides GPL?

The license is GPLv2 or later, not v3. Also "something besides GPL" is not a useful description of what you'd need. Not that I matters though as I hold the copyright only for a very minor part of the code, so I can't. I have no objections though if you wish to contact all copyright holders and ask them to relicense. Probably more work than doing a new implementation from scratch though.

I would be interested in LGPL, if that is a possibility.

I personally would be fine with LGPL, but you would need to get permission from all contributors, ideally by having them agree here or via email. git log | grep Author | sort -u to get a list, plus the company this was originally developed for and thus owns the majority of the copyright (see README).
