Found this blog a month or so ago and its been a great learning experience, thanks Roger! Took some time figuring out where things needed to be updated for changing websites, but I have it working with a few work arounds. Anyone else working on this? Let me know where you are stuck, maybe we can help each other.

Hey MBEngMike, were you able to find a fix for parsing the baseball reference page for the 2022 games in part 2?

MBEngMike commented 2 years ago

I think so, what section are you getting the error in?

I'm getting a 'list index out of range' error when I run the third block of code in part 5, the section that adds scores for games from the current year

MBEngMike commented 2 years ago

What's your github user name, I'll add you to my repository of code that was updated. It still has a few places it fails depending on things like rainouts or doubleheaders that I haven't been able to fix yet, but take a look.

ok, I'll add you.

The directory Original Files has some mods to the original parts. The file MLB Game Predictor 2022 in the main directory is my update to Part 5. Let me know if you run into any issues.

Just curious if anybody could be updated websites. I do a lot of stuff like this in google sheets with Bayes' Theorem, even made a spin off of the classic W% formula by Bill James. Came across this looking for something outside google sheets.

Anybody know if websites like teamrankings or fangraphs would work well?

@MBEngMike could you add me to the repo as well?

itsRabb commented 4 months ago

@MBEngMike Hey you think I can get an invite to your repo Mike. Would really appreciate it! With baseball season around the corner felt it's time to ditch the Google spreadsheet & try my hand at this.

I am currently working on a different model at the moment as I couldn't get past part 2. But I found a different model on YouTube that uses stats from 1980-2023 to create predictions.
