Going through the filament change command sequence outside of a print can cause bad things to happen. That can show up and the printer resetting, printer freezing, trying to heat up to an unreachable temperature, or the temperature not matching anything the printer is actually doing. When the printer isn't in print mode, the hot end needs to heat up to a nonzero temperature. Can you add a step to heat to current temp, heat to PLA temp, or heat to PC temp when outside of a print?
Ran into this problem on TB with a special version of 4.4.2 firmware. After loading and purging the filament the trolley jerked in X, the fans turned off, and the Viki dial changed color.
