I reopen this issue in order to make some adjustments in the structure as proposed in #163.

For Matrix, we should provide first a short "overview" and user and developer manuals before giving the details as it is now. Probably this may be moved to separated docs or to the bottom. Ie let's not "bother" potential users with details they may not find useful in a first contact.

Performed a major re-design

moved lots of background information (Matrix.org main concepts, implementation decisions, internal architecture etc.) to separate md-files
referenced these files in README.md
added some descriptions for the setup of a development environment
