react-star: a simplified version of the current logo, keeping the React logo's original color. You may also notice that the star's shape is a little 'shallower' (inside spikes don't go in as much), which makes it look a little friendlier.
pattern-star: the same star shape is scaled up and is intersected by the ellipses of the React logo. This is much more subtle, so I wonder: did you pick up on this when you looked at it first? I chose a friendly green color to tone down the potentially elitist connotations of the big star.
type-only: going logo-less could be a good choice if we want to stay casual. With the right kerning/tracking and a good geometric font choice (Futura seems to be doing well), this could look really sharp. To me it has a strong "part of the React community" feel.
map: I have no idea where this is going. I think it looks pretty with the pink :).
