Journal ideas for submission of biomass and LER manuscript on cover crop trial #6

readersm commented 4 years ago

I made a list of journals that most of my citations come from in writing the methods, some of the intro, my annotated bibliography I've been adding to etc. I removed the chemical, soil science, social science, and very strict ones (e.g. Agron J). After looking through style guides for a while on Friday and a bit today. I feel like the following are possibilities. I am up for looking into others though! My comments per journal are in italics below each listing (in order of my take on best-fits).

Renewable Agriculture and Food Systems

(Open access fee)

Aims and Scope

Renewable Agriculture and Food Systems publishes original research on biological, physical, or social science aspects of alternative and renewable agriculture and food systems. We particularly welcome multidisciplinary studies, but papers from a specific discipline are also invited. However, since RAF readership is much broader than for a single-discipline journal, highly specialized terminology should be explained or avoided. The significance of a statement, or the reasoning behind a conclusion, may have to be spelled out more than in a more specialized journal.

Probably a best bet. Guidelines not too difficult, 200-400 word abstract, 5000 word limit, tables must be referenced in text, avoid 'jargon'. Harvard (author-date) system for references.

Crop Science

Open access fee $1050

Scope

Crop Science (CS) is the normal channel for publication of papers in crop breeding and genetics; crop physiology and metabolism; crop ecology, production, and management; seed physiology, production, and technology; turfgrass science; forage and grazing land ecology and management; genomics, molecular genetics, and biotechnology; germplasm collections and their use; and biomedical, health beneficial, and nutritionally enhanced plants.

Maybe not very accepting of non-significant results, but a close fit context-wise. Have manuscript template and checklist. APA style for citations. Very specific style

Agriculture, Ecosystems, and Environment

(Open access fee)

An International Journal for Scientific Research on the Interaction Between Agroecosystems and the Environment

Agriculture, Ecosystems and Environment publishes scientific articles dealing with the interface between agroecosystems and the natural environment, specifically how agriculture influences the environment and how changes in that environment impact agroecosystems. Preference is given to papers from experimental and observational research at the field, system or landscape level, from studies that enhance our understanding of processes using data-based biophysical modelling, and papers that bridge scientific disciplines and integrate knowledge. All papers should be placed in an international or wide comparative context.

Probably not very accepting of nonsignificant results. Physiology and production info may not fit the scope as well with only 1 site. Subdivisions must be numbered (1.1.1, 1.1.2), citation style listed in guide, DOIs needed.

The focus is on the following areas: • Biological and physical characteristics and dynamics of agroecosystems. • Ecology, diversity and sustainability of agricultural systems. Maye this one fits? • Relationships between agroecosystems and the natural environment, including land, air, and water. • Agroecosystem and global environmental changes including climate change, greenhouse gases and air pollution. • Ecological consequences of intensification, soil degradation, waste application, irrigation, and mitigation options. • Environmental implications of agricultural land use and land use change.

Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems (formerly Journal of Sustainable Ag)

Open access

Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems is a journal covering the technologies/fields/categories related to Agronomy and Crop Science; Development, Renewable Energy, Sustainability and the Environment. It is published by Taylor and Francis Ltd.. The overall rank of Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems is 8901. According to SCImago Journal Rank (SJR), this journal is ranked 0.54. SCImago Journal Rank is an indicator, which measures the scientific influence of journals. It considers the number of citations received by a journal and the importance of the journals from where these citations come. SJR acts as an alternative to the Journal Impact Factor (or an average number of citations received in last 2 years). This journal has an h-index of 35. The best quartile for this journal is.

Too low visibility? Very simple submission process. 8000 to 10000 words all-inclusive.

HortTech

(Open Access)

Aim and Scope

HortTechnology serves as the primary outreach publication of the American Society for Horticultural Science. Its mission is to provide science-based information to professional horticulturists, practitioners, and educators; promote and encourage an interchange of ideas among scientists, educators, and professionals working in horticulture; and provide an opportunity for peer review of practical horticultural information.

Technology and Product Reports

Focus on new and innovative technologies, methods, equipment, and products.

Research Reports

Research and development of interest to professionals in horticulture

Probably not favorable to nonsignificant results. Bummer because the submission and guidelines seemed one of the easiest

HortScience

Subjects appropriate for submission to HortScience include original research results on various scientific and cultural aspects of horticulture and closely related subjects, such as:

Journal of the American Society for Horticultural Science (JASHS)

Subjects appropriate for submission to JASHS include:

Plant and Soil

Open access choice

An International Journal on Plant-Soil Relationships

Not a good fit with the lack of soil data

Ecological monographs

Too much ag in this research to fit ecological focus intensity
