What would Tumblr-like themes look like? #120

What would Reading be like in the context of a blog? I'm wondering what it'll be like once images make their way into the feed.

What if this is about an entirely new type of template? Where you design groupings rather than posts.

A person's readling list/history, you mean?

leppert commented 12 years ago

@maxfenton yes, exactly. Just musing on product potential.

maxfenton commented 12 years ago

I forgot about images in the feed. Can't say I'm stoked about it.

I am such a downer in GitHub issues. :sorry: I would love a day of drawing with you, Greg, on a whiteboard. Lots of postit notes. Something like that. Wild ideas.

Um. Gross?

OK, so just to riff on this: I'm setting up a "River of News" using the RSS feeds from all the stuff I spew onto the web. And that's basically a formless blob of links (only runs localhost. Screenshot= http://cl.ly/image/1T2w1H1y433l )

I don't think there's a business in another (or even the first) Flavors.me or similar aggregator. But there's something brewing about federated messaging/blog systems. Dissatisfaction with Twitter. Fear of google killing reader. River2 is one of those. Newsblur is another, YC version.

Something about data and trails and spewing out blogs.

I think the more we experiment with things like the _isreading twitters and generating tumblrs of reading and explain about hooks, the more we might see other forms evolve. Some of them might look awesome and gross.

We should really talk about this sometime soon. Ronen has been longing for a publishing mechanism for creatives that allows one to separate out subfeeds ("just photos", "just videos", "on the subject of dirigibles", "everything"). I've been thinking a great deal about how to fix email, and the solution to that problem may include de-centralized twitter/text message services within the same protocol.

(O, and 'gross' was in reference to Tumblr themes for reading profiles).
