Note: it's not shown in the actual feed of images, but in the notifications area. As Reading gets more conversational, it might be that aggregated notifications of some sort become necessary. Just putting that out there.
As a privacy thing: would it be possible to have "Your friend [NAME] joined Reading" appear only in your "Following Posts" but not to other readers who look at your "Following Posts"? Imagine someone keeps their FB friend list private, for example, but their friends appear in their "Following Posts" to everyone else. This all gets a little hairy.
Consider the idea of showing notifications about friends joining Reading in the trail of "Following Posts" Since the FB acquisition, Instagram has shown "Your Facebook friend [name] joined Instagram]" in the notifications.
On Reading, "Following Posts" is more of the main stream, so that might not be the right place for it to appear. "Following Posts" is also public to other readers and browsers.
Making an issue for discussion and to think this through further. I would be curious what Amrit thinks of this idea.
(might coincide with renaming "Following Posts" — see: #191)
