Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Trawel has little room for an overarching story as is, because it would need to slot into a freeplay world as well. However, the lack of story can leaving the exploration feeling repetitive and guideless at times since there is no main path to veer off from.

Describe the solution you'd like A few preset character stories could be added through the current story system (likely co-existing alongside the story tutorial) that encourage players to engage in one facet of the game more. For example, a background of a Witch could involve having the player collection potion ingredients at various sites and repeatedly visit witch huts to push them into a more potion-focused character, starting with relevant Archetypes and Feats and providing small rewards to push them along. A background of a Duelist might provide more direct combat Archetypes to start, and encourage them to visit arenas and accrue a large number of duel wins. A Cultist background might want to reach high worship levels at an altar and receive chosen perks through world actions.

Each story should push the player forward by driving them to specific aspects of the game. They could be either preset character focused (like traditional games) or focused more on a generic background quest, as described directly above. Players would not be required to stick around lower level areas when completing the quests, instead they would be at whatever Feature is relevant in any town, requiring certain actions that are checked at various stages (like when entering a feature, could check if you have a certain potion type or duel win count). The player would also be encouraged to go off the path to level up and complete misc sidequests in general, but with the main plot thread guiding them forward.

Describe alternatives you've considered The game could have a single main story, like it did in the past.
