When first entering this class, I had little to no prior knowledge of Computer Science, a part from seeing my parents and brother code at home.
Throughout the year, I took the lessons from students and Mr. Mortensen, as well as tutorials online to help expand my knowledge and experience.
Each trimester, working on the group projects heavily contributed to helping me solidify my skills in HTML, CSS, Python, and JavaScript, as well as being able to explain the use of such languages in my work.
Working as the DevOps and Scrum Master of my groups has also been helpful in my understanding of AWS and being able to delegate tasks, hold team meetings, and being able to get my group to work together.
Of course, I am a student who is constantly learning from those around me and refining my skills in coding. I also am trying to work on learning how to properly read other people's code and being able to help them with errors or problems.
Highs and Lows
There have been numerous highs and lows from throughout this school-year
Notably, I faced MANY issues with AWS when I was first starting to learn how to deploy and configure instances. There were many errors from lack of disk space, ports being taken, as well as generic errors in regards to Docker that I had to understand. In one particular moment in trimester 2, my team's backend server was down the DAY before review! I was very worried but quickly came to my senses and managed to figure out that there was an issue with a setting that was likely changed by accident. Fixing this error which would have had detrimental effects on our group's project felt very gratifying and I was proud of my calm demeanor which led to myself being able to fix the issue.
Future Plans with CompSci
In terms of future plans in the field of Computer Science, I would like to follow the footsteps of my brother and many of my other family members and get a job in this industry. In fact, this week, I have an interview with Qualcomm in regards to their Innovators Development Kit. I am the Vice President of the DNHS Tech Space Club and we hope to interview for an opportunity to obtain this kit in order to work and learn more about AI/Machine Learning.
Future Plans in Education/Career
In the future, I would like to be a software engineer. I hope that by taking these classes and getting comfortable in this subject, I can set myself up the best I can for the future ahead of me.
Other
This year, I really enjoyed the student lessons as they were (for the most part) all interactive in their own unique ways. From playing interactive games to making rap songs to help us learn certain concepts better, I really enjoyed not just teaching, but also being taught by my peers.
