@botaohu confirmed to remove battery from stiff head band. Decrease the thickness.

@botaohu pls check the RevB CAD. https://github.com/holokit/HoloKitX-Hardware/blob/master/StiffHeadBand/StiffHeadBand3D/release/Stiff_Head_Band_Assy_RevB_withHME.STEP

Try to borrow an idea from both HoloLens 2 and Oculus Rift S.

Next Plan:

botaohu commented 4 years ago

@botaohu already 3d-print the first version. I will feed back on Monday night. @nicolehong0 please start to enlarge back pad to secure the stability. I guess that next step, we can learn to extend the pad as Hololens 2.

Use CAD _Stiff_Head_Band_AssyRevC and _Stiff_Head_Band_Outer_shellRevD for Proto 1 3D printing, with band angel as below: image

adjusted band angel and extend cushion_frame for proto 2 as below: image

My review feedback for proto 1&2 as:

  1. The adjustor function is good, easy to adjust, and sound feedback for tight/loose is good.
  2. Strap movement while adjusting is smooth, the strap guide design works.
  3. Middle frame/foam frame connections (snaps) work, tight connection.
  4. Strap material should be more flexible than the proto (3D printing material), prefer PP. Or have the deformation risk as the strap is long.
  5. The head pad length is too long for me if the foam is thin.
  6. The adjustable length should be long enough as strap need to be much larger than the head circumference while loading, or the nose support would bump into face. Especially for people w/ large head circumference and people w/ certain hair style like ponytail.
  7. Only front head pad and back head pad touching head, strap on two side don’t touching head for me.
  8. The strap of stiff_head_band_strap_V1 conf. is more suitable for me. The strap of stiff_head_band_strap_V2 conf. is too close to the top of head for me, which let me don’t feel stable and safe. The loading distribution is similar for both strap configurations
  9. The main load is applied on the front head pad (especially the lower corner on two sides), some load on nose support, smaller load on back head pad (pressure nominal to touching surface, don’t feel uncomfortable) for me for both cushion frame (extend downward or not).
  10. If the nose support match the nose, the load applied on nose can be adjusted light when the strap is adjusted tight enough.
  11. When just ware the HME, feel smaller load on nose for the extended one. But after ware for a while, the loading feelings become similar for both extended and un-extended back head pad.
  12. Adding counter weight on the back head pad doesn’t significantly lighten load on nose. Tried to add 70g, feel no difference. Tried to add 170g, feel very slightly lightening nose load and adding front head pad load.

@nicolehong0 can you help to iterate new stiff head band with lighter materials and smaller structure with head top-strap?

botaohu commented 2 years ago

Close due to cancelation of stiff head band because it's costy and incomfortable.
