Journal of Open Source Software - quite light-weight ~1-pager software paper, fast-tracked peer-review using GitHub issues. DOI for "The Software (tm)". Useful as place-holder DOI without counting as "previous publication".
A traditional journal or conference paper - this could describe more on how REANA is used, architected etc. and compare with other. (takes the most time)

CERN-IT-Note-2018-004 has a good description, but @hjhsalo pointed out that the REANA software itself should have a DOI.
