You could make tags for 4.0.0 branch when you start making 4.0.0 specific changes (e.g. my pull request), so that the recalbox nightlies can be build with recalbox-manager for 4.0.0 and users are able to test and give feedback.
Then this would have to be changed also: https://github.com/recalbox/recalbox-buildroot/blob/unified-4.0.0/package/recalbox-manager/recalbox-manager.mk
