This would be great. I live in the UK and pay for each sms I send. I'm happy
with this, but it would be awesome if I could type a message on my computer and
click the Chrome To Phone icon and it sends the message as an sms from my phone.
It would be even better if this feature were built into Gmail (in the labs
section probably) so I could select from my contacts.

This can be done...kinda! If you type the message in the google search bar and
click CTF it clipboards it on the phone and you can send it via you're chosen
messaging app

There is already an app that does the job (smshare). The ideal would be to do
the same thing with chrome to phone :-)

I suggest something like typing 'sms: your text' and the sms app would open up
and fill in sms body for you...
