I find the definitions related to Principal investigators & Creators confusing in ReDBox.
1) "Principal investigator" in the DMPT & Selfsub workflows map to "Creator [PI]" in the main workflow. However, main workflow help-text implies PI means 'Partner Investigator'. If the help text is accurate (see item 2 below) then I would have expected that "Principal investigator" might map better to "Creator [CI]" where CI means 'Chief Investigator'.
2) It appears to me from the field names in the tfpackage file (in ReDBox storage for items in the main workflow) that:
CI/Chief Investigator in the GUI corresponds to "dc:creator.foaf:Person.N.redbox:isCoPrimaryInvestigator": "on"
PI/Partner Investigator in the GUI corresponds to "dc:creator.foaf:Person.N.redbox:isPrimaryInvestigator": "on"
Those relationships do not seem logical to me. However, the field names do seem to be consistent with the mapping described in item 1 above (ie. Principal investigator in DMPT/Selfsub maps to Primary Investigator field) but implies that the main workflow help-text is misleading. So perhaps ReDBox could be self-consistent if in the main workflow:
PI meant Principal (or Primary) investigator &
CI meant Co-primary investigator
However, I would prefer the self-consistent & externally consistent solution below.
POTENTIAL SOLUTION
The main workflow help-definitions of CI & PI fit well with ARC & NHMRC definitions eg. http://www.arc.gov.au/applicants/eligibility_matters.htm. So perhaps the solution is to change almost everything except the help text to fit ARC/NHMRC definitions which researchers are more likely to understand. That is:
1) In DMPT/Selfsub workflows, change "Principal investigator" to "Chief investigator". Make corresponding changes to DMPT/Selfsub help text. Make it map to "Creator [CI]" in the main workflow. Keep main workflow help text unchanged.
2) For field names in the tfpackage file (in ReDBox storage for items in the main workflow) make:
PI/Partner Investigator in the GUI correspond to "dc:creator.foaf:Person.N.redbox:isCoPrimaryInvestigator": "on"
CI/Chief Investigator in the GUI correspond to "dc:creator.foaf:Person.N.redbox:isPrimaryInvestigator": "on"
