Possible crash when updating the game #3

There's a possible crash when trying to update the game from scratch, possibly due to it being on an external drive.

It turns out they were trying to sign into Steam (tracked as #9.) For completeness sake I did complete a complete install on 0.5.1 and confirm it still works, so I didn't break that
