change defaults to the ones appearing in my plots #41

This is just a pointer to the commit needed change default plotting settings to get the universality plots I generate to look the way I do. You can cherry pick this if you want, or we can agree on some other standard and we can roll with that.

I'm going to close this for now. We can reassess font-style choices once we have code in place to compute all the figures we want.
