site http://www.amarujala.com/ is still blocking #3482

Open vsrawat opened 7 years ago

vsrawat commented 7 years ago

when I visit, http://www.amarujala.com/india-news/in-gujarat-polls-ncp-has-not-taken-any-decision-to-back-congress the site loads, but then it disappears and notice comes that "adblocker is in use, blah blah".

So it is still blocking adblockplus users, even when your greasemonkey script is installed and enabled.

of course you script did work on some other sites which were previous blocked on account of adblockplus but now are showing content.

Hope you would analyzes why this above site is still able to bypass your script.

I am on w8, firefox.

Thanks.

vsrawat commented 7 years ago

No, no.

I don't want to whitelist this site in abp.

Using ABP is my priority, so if this site doesn't load with abp working, let it be. I will avoid this site. Serves them well.

The question was whether you can analyze this site's code to find how it could bypass your script, and you might modify your script to make that work on this site also.

There's no point, EasyList will eventually white list it.

@uBlock-user Breaking canRun does not work...

This works: amarujala.com##script:inject(abort-on-property-read.js, call_adblocker)

vsrawat commented 7 years ago

heard of that for the first time.

I have now installed uBlock Origin 1.13.8 on ff, let us see how it fares.

Currently, retaining abp also, hope they wouldn't conflict with each other.

Thanks. -- Rawat

oh no, I have subscribed to easylist in abp.

What is the solution NOT to whitelist this site? Should I manually blacklist it? how?

I mean, if some site is using such ugly methods, I don't want them to get rewarded. If I whitelist that site, I am succumbing to pressure tactics of that site. I don't want to do that. I want the site to suffer on account to reduced traffic to their site.

Here is the rule for uBO: amarujala.com##script:inject(abort-on-property-read.js, call_adblocker)

If you want a waterproof setup, then blacklist everything and only whitelist what you need. You should use a local transparent proxy for that though.

Leaving the site would allow them to accomplish their goal, and they are rewarded by their definition. Breaking the detection without letting ads in the the ultimate goal of anti-adblock defusers. Although whitelists are not preferred, it is fine in some cases, especially for ABP users.

vsrawat commented 7 years ago

yes that is it. :-)

I stopped abp and used only ubo.

Even then this site stopped and gave abp message.

Then I put the code given by you in ubo user preferances, and reloaded the pages.

And the page appeared and remained and didn't show ubo warning.

Thanks again.

not clear.

by putting this code in preferences

  1. will the site become whitelisted for abp and no ads will be stopped or
  2. the site will remain blocked for ads but that adblocker warning will not appear.

I guess, you have given two separate code each for abp and for ubo. That didn't become clear to me, as I was not even aware at that time what ubo was. I thought that is a single code for abp.

@vsrawat don't use more than 1 adblockers... secondly if you use firefox(it uses 250mb+ ram) and abp is ofcourse uses more memory(they are not able to fix), so use only ublock origin performance https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock#memory https://github.com/gorhill/httpswitchboard/wiki/Adblock-Plus-memory-consumption ....also ublock origin is much more advanced than abp https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock#blocking https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/uBlock-vs.-ABP:-efficiency-compared ....so use this if you use firefox & you don't want to get nagged by adblock killers

ublock origin violentmonkey aak cont & aak list(instructions here https://gitlab.com/xuhaiyang1234/AAK-Cont ) don't use antiadblock killer by reek, its unmaintained

vsrawat commented 7 years ago

Yes, I was already facing memory problem, that ff jumps starts with some 300+ MB memory usage, and jumps to 1000-1200 MB and then it almost hangs so I had to restart to free memory, so I don't know how much more it could have used.

My 4 GB (3.3 GB usable) sticks were sort of in use only by ff.

ff also has high CPU usage problem, it quickly jumps to 50%+ CPU usage on smallest activity.

and then my CPU temp was reaching 88 to 90 degree and system sort of hanged, so I had to wait till it cools again, or had to abort ff.

I have now uninstalled abp fully.

plus point is that they were having an abp element picker as separate add-on that also is removed so I save memory and overheads of two add-ons. that feature is built in ubo

however, I came to this list o account of reek's aad itself, and I had installed that, and had to install gm also.

And it was working well in "un"blocking other sites which were previously not appearing on account of abp.

now, I have removed reek's script, and have removed gm also, so I guess I am back on square one.

let's see which sites are loading in spite of ubo now. I will report the sites here which do not allow on account of ubo, hope you guys will teach me how to make them work.

Thanks for this.

I had disabled abp today morning, and since then cpu temp has never jumped to 88 degs even once, and memory problem has also not occured even once. So, I can believe that your tips are correct. I was wondering for entire day how those problems are not occurring.

My ff is much leaner now. So, you deserve additional thanks on behalf of my pc/ memory sticks/ cpu.

now ublock is installed and enabled in ff violentmoneky is installed and enabled

however the script at moz-extension://49983086-2e4e-4768-b893-6d99e2fecdb4/options/index.html#confirm?id=j63v5rmqy8qd is not installing.

When I click "confirm installation" on that page, it says "script updated, but nothing else happens, it doesn't appear anywhere, and "user scripts" tab in ff extensions page is not appearing, as was appearing with gm, reek's script.

What I am missing. Have closed and restarted ff also.

The two pages, to which the gitlab.com sent for testing, loaded well and no anti warning appeared, so I guess that part is working.

the AAK-list that the gitlab page tells about is appearing in ublock settings filters page and is ticked and is showing some statistics so I guess it is working.

This page opens a window asking to add the following in custom filters

Title: "AAK-Cont Filter For uBlock Origin" URL: https://xuhaiyang1234.gitlab.io/AAK-Cont/dist/aak-cont-list-ubo.txt

I added these lines in custom filters, and when I apply changes, these entries disappear and nothing new appears in the above list.
