some work to try to leave the genome ids free of details.

I see 1 thing - the genome_descriptions.csv must also include {tag} in the sample_name column -- like {genome}-fasta-{tag} -- otherwise there would be no way to specify which genome tag you are describing.

I think I forgot to mention that. in this case it's just append -default to the end of each entry in the sample_name column
