Probably just simple slab model to start, then one with a well-defined Gaussian roughness, then a magnetic slab system.

Is this kind of equivalent to the samples defined in the validation workflow? (which BA, refl1d, and refnx all validate successfully against)

Note, the validation examples don't include any PNR.

What is required for this? Does it require real data, or would a sample simulation do? I.e. I am happy to sort out some simple refl1d PNR examples if not already done. Do they need to be in a specific format, or is a general refl1d script fine? Additionally do we want some PA examples (i.e. spin flip scattering/magnetic angle)?

I think we're looking for simulations and not real data here. These will be reference calculations rather than reference data. @andyfaff yes, this maps on to a lot of work that you've already done in the validation area, specifically to validate any future calculation implementations in addition to the implementations you've already tested.
