one-character Section Headers not rendered #72

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. render a page having a section with header ==a==
2. resulting HTML contains <h2><span class="mw-headline" id="" /></h2>

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
expected: <h2><span class="mw-headline" id="" />a</h2>
instead: <h2><span class="mw-headline" id="" /></h2>

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
3.0.16

Please provide any additional information below.

Works fine for all longer headers, or if there's a white space in front or 
after the one-character-header (e.g. ==a == or == a== both works fine). Same 
problem for all other headers (=a=, ===a===, ...)
