Hello, I would really like to create this product but am having some trouble! First, the links in the message for the items needed are going to a web page in another country and in another language, and I’m having a hard time finding them exactly as linked in the US. Would it be possible to refresh those links to a US based company? Also not sure what why’re correct, as the Pogo pins in the link look very different than the ones in the picture (picture shows 5 pins; link shows 4). I’m also curious if you have some more pictures of the project that you can post with maybe some more detailed instructions? It would be very much appreciated if possible!!

Hi! I've linked to Digikey since it is an international distributor. You might need to change the country in the settings, but you can definitely get everything in the US (with the part numbers). The pogo pins link shows 4 pins, but it is a 5 pin. I'll open the adapter and try to take some more pictures, but please bear in mind that this is not intended to be a product but an afternoon hack of mine.

Hi Christian, thanks for the quick response! I think I've gotten the parts I need... Not sure why your links take me to a german (looking?) page, but none the less, I've ordered the parts! And I certainly understand what you mean... I'm not looking to commercialize this either - just an "afternoon hack" for me too! :-)

So, I'm looking through everything... Never used Teensy, but I've used arduino before, so mildly familiar with the process here. It looks like you have some 3d printer files, for printing the box that attaches to the side of the RM2, correct? And the only thing inside that box is the pogo pins and the USB adapter? I'm assuming that it will be rather self-intuitive how these pieces fit together inside the box, which is (presumably) two pieces held together by a screw?

The picture of the foot pedal looks like it has a cord coming out of it. I also assume that somehow the cord to the footpedal is removed, and replaced by a USB cable that attached directly to the Teensy? So the Teensy and the pogo box are both connected together by a male/male USB cable, is that correct?

Sorry to ask so much of you here, but this is EXACTLY what I've been looking for and I'm really excited to get it going!!

THanks,

Trey

Hi! I've attached two more images ofe the inside of the adapter. And yes, the two STL files are for the box to be 3d printed. You're right that this box allows to plug in any USB device into the remarkable. I've remobed the foot switch cable and instead inserted a USB A to micro USB cable to connect to the Teensy. Instead of a teensy, one could also open up an old USB keyboard and xonnect the switch such that it produces a PgDown keypress to advance the page on the remarkable

Hey!! So I'm finally getting this thing put together and I'm a little confused out the pogo pins... Did you just solder wires from the usb plug to the pins, and then hot glue everything to hold it in place? The pic above is what I've got... ordered everything directly from your links. Your pic of the 3d printed box looks like it has some type of green board on it but can't tel what it is... Did I maybe get a different part?

See pic - that's what I have

And also, did you just "Hotwire" the Grn to ID pin?

reini1305 commented 2 years ago

Hi! Sorry for the late answer. Yes, I've connected GND to ID as in the schematic. The green board is a "peg board" That I've cut to size (just to have something to mount the components to (similar to this https://www.neuhold-elektronik.at/catshop/popup_image.php?pID=7867). I've bent some connectors like those https://www.neuhold-elektronik.at/catshop/popup_image.php?pID=2688 90 degrees and soldered the pogo pins to them.

It should be possible to connect pogo pins and USB connector with wires though and fixing them into position with hot glue.

This is such an awesome project. Thanks for posting! :raising_hand_man: I don't see the magnets in the pics. Can you add a pick of that? Maybe they are here? image
