Hello,

Thanks for the workaround to remove most of the Tesco bloat with the TMF Custom ROM Release V1.0.

I have successfully updated the firmware but I fail when trying to add a current, valid, gmail account or create a new one.

Can you offer an further advice please?

It's a while since I tried, and I never had any problems in the past. I've just put a Hudl on to charge but it might be a couple of days before I get back to it .... please ping me again here if you haven't heard anything by the end of the week.

I just factory reset a Hudl 1 with the custom ROM installed. I had no problems adding my Google account using the following steps:

  1. Make sure wifi is on and connected
  2. Launch the settings app
  3. click "+ Add Account"
  4. click "Google account"
  5. click 'Existing'
  6. Enter email and password and click 'finished' (or the right arrow)
  7. click 'ok' on the terms and conditions
  8. You'll get a screen saying 'Couldn't sign in' To access your account you must sign in on the web. Touch 'next' to start browser sign in - click 'next'
  9. Follow the instructions to complete sign in and sign in again.
  10. should be done.

Let me know where things don't work for you if you don't follow the same pattern.

Thanks Rob,

That allowed me to add my google account to the Hudl. However, the sync isn't working on the account nor has it updated the play store app. The internet connection reports as connected but when I open the play store it says there is no connection nor can I get a search to work in Chrome.

I just want to use the device with a sumup payment machine.

Any other suggestions please?

Sadly Google appear to have dropped support for Android 4.2.2. I haven't yet had time to look to see if I can update the Custom ROM to bring Google Play Services and the other Apps to more modern versions - but even if Google Play is updated it doesn't provide access to apps any more.

There are a couple of issues covering this already, but not sure when I'll get any time to look furhter: https://github.com/remay/tmf-hudl/issues/43 https://github.com/remay/tmf-hudl/issues/18

Finding Apps from repositories like APK Pure and sideloading is what you may have to resort to. Viv Ellis has written up some notes on this - see the file 'Managing your android apps.pdf' from here: https://sites.google.com/view/vivweb01/downloads although I haven't tried to follow the instructions myself Viv is a reputable source of Hudl 1 and Hudl 2 info
