What does stripLinkExtPlugin do #268

In investigating the plugins used by unified, what is stripLinkExtPlugin trying to achieve and could we use a rehype link plugin such as https://github.com/brechtcs/rehype-urls or https://github.com/JS-DevTools/rehype-url-inspector
