First real simple idea
Visualisation of the dev cycle with Node's green color.
/edit uses Quicksand from http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/quicksand
I can envision an eye outline with a refresh circle for iris.will see if I can craft it soon.
These ideas are pretty dog-rough, have a look and I will be happy to do them all proper like
First thing that came to mind.
Ok, this one's landing a bit late here..
funny to see the no-demon and the node-demon interpretations next to each other
The demon one also looks like a sort of a helmet, which could be interpreted as a precaution or a security measure. Like the way nodemon can be used on production servers when a script hangs and gets auto-restarted. Maybe it's only in my head though ;)
BTW isn't using the node trademark or logo a bit of a no-no?
Re: node, I'm not sure, but you could be right. It's also worth bearing in mind that a lot people actually use nodemon for non node tasks. Which is really cool, but is also what it might not make sense to make it so node like (which is why I like @benbrignell and @PM5544's versions).
Here's some more ideas for the pot
+1
To make it less NodeJSy I changed the colours a bit. Like they say "inspired by" the Solarized colour scheme.
Had some time so I thought I should have some fun making it pretty abstract. I could tell you this was based on the chronological steps in the development cycle, switching back and forth and than having it break a couple of times and fixing it in the end. Or the zone you are in when coding and its rhythm. But it's so abstract that you can make of it what you want, it just depends on how long you look at it ;) To be honest this doesn't scream "He I'm a development tool" or anything but that might be a good thing.
Folks, thanks for your patience (I've been running conferences last week and the weeks leading up to it has been super busy, but anyway!).
First of all - I think it's awesome that people have just contributed ideas (I luv you!). Anyway, for me, my favourites are @PM5544's 2nd version and @benbrignell's simplified concepts, particular the 2nd & 3rd.
I think staying away from a direct visual line to the nodejs logo is the right thing to do, partly because it's trademarked (IIRC) but also because nodemon can also run non-node processes (though it needs node to run itself...).
I like those two designs because they've got the idea of restarting (or a circular process) and @benbrignell's version looks like lots of nodes (in a network, like a file system) are being monitored by a single node.
So, since this is the horrible land of unpaid spec work, and you're all simply in it for the glory, what do you (all) think we should do? Is there a mash up of @benbrignell and @PM5544's work? Should we just vote on one of them? Any other ideas?
Also, if I didn't say it enough already - I think you're all amazing for contributing ideas and actual work to this. I hope nodemon has/is useful to you, but know that I truly appreciate your work.

You could try combining @benbrignell ideas with the circle from @PM5544, this may help lose the suggestion of the hexagon which is also part of the nodejs logo ident. By running off the lines from the two nodes maybe? The trick though would be not to overcomplicate two very simple and clean ideas.
I'm for @benbrignell simplified concept no. 2 It's hmm... node'y? It's be great to combine all hexagon shaped stickers (of course all in one size) of all the tools you're using into one canvas. Like a tiles on a floor ;)
Personal favourite is @benbrignell's 3rd. not trying to be anything it isn't, nice font and subtle throwback to node icon. Think I prefer 3rd to 2nd as it's a little more understated.
The main issue I have with @benbrignell's design is how it would look on smaller/lower quality devices. I realise this isn't the market, but it's probably worth considering. Slightly thicker lines maybe?
Love the concept though. Bravo squire.
Here is my idea:
I vote for @PM5544.
Extremely quick mockup. Built on @benbrignell's idea.
First try at a mash-up:
HEY MON BE EASY RELAX YOURSELF AS I RELOAD JAH SERVER
As much as I love the top one, it sort of looks like a top down view of a toilet seat and the green dots are someone's feet :)
I like @aesthetics-io's demon one!
@ChrisWren's logo is nothing short of genius
the last one by @PM5544 takes the cake!
Defo @ChrisWren's for its racially questionable, graphically challenged, tenuously linked lovableness.
(I actually like @aesthetics-io's)
I like @aesthetics-io's too, but is there any issue with trademarks on the 'n'?
@remy I think you're fine - the logos are in the (MIT licensed) node repo.
+1 for the @aesthetics-io proposal
+1 for the @aesthetics-io logo
Glad to see mine getting a little love. Happy to workshop/tweek it as needed.
All right, after asking The Twitters, a) people love the images, b) I love and really appreciate the input that everyone has put in to this issue, c) @aesthetics-io's design takes the cake.
Super special thanks to @PM5544 for the iterations and jumping in right away (and @benbrignell for your design thinking - like I think I said before, that's the kind of stuff I personally love to see).
@aesthetics-io can you send across a vector version of the image? Either on this thread or on another new thread? I usually also suggest taking a look and seeing if the image works at 16x16 - and if not, would you be able to do a small version too?
Really awesome work everyone. And hopefully I'll have 1.0.0 of nodemon ready in a week or so: #200
No problem. I'll tidy it up this afternoon and send it through.
Would love it if anyone had any ideas or suggestions for a logo for nodemon.
Text suggestions also welcome!
